Although the Single Backed Bench was created to 'fill' the ends of the table and create a sense of enclosure whilst sitting outside, thereby promoting the focus on a laid table and the company around it without creating a literal barrier against the surroundings (my this is a long sentance), this bench has become popular bench for two in its own right.
